Major Environmental Problem

I think the major environmental problem is oil spills. There were too many incidents where oil companies "accidentally" dump waste in oceans and they do not realize how it affects the ocean animals and the human species. I am upset when I hear on the news that many ocean species are dying because of careless companies spilling oil. Just recently there was an oil spill from BP oil company boats. I do not what on earth how this situation ever happened. Did they do a systems check on the boat? Was someone lazy enough not to do their job? Or was there some type of malfunction that just suddenly occurred?
Oil spills is not the only harm to our oceans but also WASTE IN GENERAL. People carelessly throw foreign materials in the water or around the beaches and sewers. Does anyone realize how this simple act can affect us? Yes, the sea creatures will either die, get sick, or become mutated, but what happens when we eat them. We will not have a good appetite either. Plus, how else do we get our water? Yes, we have advanced filters to clean the water from filth and other harmful germs, but what happens when drink the water that unexpectedly had gotten contaminated from chemicals poured into ground water?
What do you think we should do to stop this? How about this: STOP THROWING WASTE IN THE WATER AND/OR THE GROUND AND START RECYCLING YOUR MATERIALS IN THE PROPER BINS! IF THERE ARE MATERIALS THAT CANNOT BE RECYCLED, THROW THEM IN THE TRASH OR GARBAGE CAN!
